Proverb And Idiom



PROVERB
Each word has its own meaning . When words strung together would be a beautiful sentence and contain a specific meaning . As well as a series of words in proverbs and words of wisdom , words are arranged so that a string of sentences to be so beautiful , brief, concise , unbiased containing parables , advice , life principles or rules of behavior .
Proverb or maxim known as a verse or set of words have a fixed composition,
containing a certain sense contain positive suggestions .
Kinds of Proverbs: 
1.Aphorism (Pepatah)
This proverb offers advice.
Example  : Don’t go too far in small .
2.      Parable (Perumpamaan)
That has a moral lesson and has parable.
Example   : To carry coals to New-castle.
 3. Slogan (Pameo)
This proverb gives spirit or motivation.
Example   : Early bird gets worm
4. Idiom
Idiom adalah kelompok kata yang dirangkai dengan susunan tertentu dimana artinya tidak dapat ditebak dari arti kata-kata penyusunnya secara terpisah.
Example :  
1.      Pull your sock up. (improve your behaviour)
2.      You can arrange your bedroom at will. (sesuka hati)
3.      Don’t mention it. (You’re welcome)  
In English there are also proverbs and words of wisdom (wise word) , the following is an example:

1. Better late than never.
    (Lebih baik terlambat daripada tidak sama sekali.)           
2. Bending without breaking.
    (Mengalah bukan berarti kalah.)
3. A good book is a great friend.
    (Buku yang bermanfaat merupakan teman yang baik.)
4. Out of sight near by heart.
    (Jauh di mata dekat di hati.)
5. No one too old to learn.
    (Belajar tidak memandang usia.)


IDIOM
Idiom is the language units (can be a word , phrase , or sentence ) whose meaning is not predictable from the meaning of lexical elements and grammatical meaning those entities . Examples idiom is a drudge , a green table and so forth . From the foregoing , it can be concluded that the meaning idiomatikal is the meaning of a unit of language ( either word , phrase or sentence ) that " deviate " from the meaning of lexical or grammatical meaning its constituent elements . To know the meaning of the idiom of a word ( phrase or sentence ) there is no way other than to find it in the dictionary .
There are some examples of idioms commonly used in everyday life following example :
1.As easy as pie
Arti: sangat mudah
Contoh: “I thought you said this was a difficult task. In fact, it’s as easy as pie.”

2. At the eleventh hour
Arti: Pada detik-detik terakhir; hampir terlambat
Contoh: “Yes, I got the work done in time. I finished it at the eleventh hour, but I was able to submit”.

3. Be all ears
Arti: Penasaran ingin mendengar apa yang telah dikatakan orang
Contoh: “Tell me what my father said. I’m all ears.”

4. Be on the road
Arti: Sedang bepergian
Contoh: Please don’t contact me tomorrow because I’ll be on the road.

5. Beat around the bush
Arti: Menghindari sebuah isu; tidak suka ditanya-tanya
Contoh: “Quit beating around the bush. If you don’t want to go with me, just tell me!”
